At the end of this post, there is a link to a TED Talk. \u00a0TED Talks are some of the best and brightest lectures on various topics, delivered in stimulating and captivating ways that engage the audience.<\/p>\n

This talk is about the power of being vulnerable, and how it leads to a recognition of oneself as enough. \u00a0I have been trying to teach this forever. \u00a0This “I am enough” – it solves most troubles…<\/p>\n

Here is a piece of original poetry I wrote when I realized I<\/em> was enough. \u00a0Follow it up with the TED Talk at the end….<\/p>\n

Woke Up – by Betz King<\/p>\n

…and suddenly, after years of small \u201ca\u201d awake,\u00a0 I Awake.\u00a0 On my couch.<\/p>\n

Before me, the mantle above the fireplace.\u00a0 A dozen roses hang drying, and above them \u2013<\/p>\n

the most glorious expressions of Divinity I can imagine…<\/p>\n

Shakti dancing in silver next to the Buddha with his small secretive smile.<\/p>\n

Pan, eyes closed, playing his nature pipes, while Krishna and Radha hold hands.<\/p>\n

Gaia sitting solid and pregnant and ripe, near Michael slaying the dragon.<\/p>\n

Jesus smiling, his arms raised high.\u00a0 My friend sits at His feet, flashing the peace sign.<\/p>\n

The stone fountain trickles, the pagan tree stands tall, adorned now in dried flowers and shining suns, and scattered throughout – the green of plants, the colors of cut flowers…<\/p>\n

To my right, books.\u00a0 So many books!\u00a0 Their colorful spines are the faces of my dearest friends.<\/p>\n

A whole shelf devoted to understanding the Self.<\/p>\n

Another shelf for writing, and another for methods of spiritual inquiry.<\/p>\n

They lean in tall-short lines, are piled atop one another, await homes on the floor near by…<\/p>\n

On the walls, pictures tell stories of God and love and of going on when it seems impossible to do so.<\/p>\n

A Priestess knighting her devoted defender, Mary \u2013 pregnant, Venus in her sexual splendor, African mothers dancing, and me – Divine Feminine in my own right… my own rite…<\/p>\n

\u201cHow did I get here?\u201d I sing the Talking Heads refrain.<\/p>\n

I look in wonder, at this den, this Temple, I see it all as if for the first time.<\/p>\n

Surely I have been building this all along? \u00a0Surely I hung these pictures?<\/p>\n

I collected these expressions of Divinity?<\/p>\n

I chose these colors, painted these walls, bought this couch with my husband now gone?<\/p>\n

Surely today is not the beginning? \u00a0And yet, today is<\/em> the beginning.<\/p>\n

Today I Awake. \u00a0To the here. \u00a0To the now.<\/p>\n

To the \u201cI am enough\u201d and the \u201cmy life is enough\u201d.<\/p>\n

I shake my head and blink my eyes. \u00a0I pinch my thigh, older than it has ever been, and tap my own cheek. \u00a0\u201cWake up little elf\u201d I say, in my kindest voice. \u00a0\u201cBe here now\u201d….<\/p>\n

Apparently I have been nesting.<\/p>\n

Apparently I have been, like Christ says in the 23rd<\/sup> Psalm, preparing a table for mine enemies… \u00a0for those unclaimed and unloved parts of myself.<\/p>\n

Apparently, this is what it looks like.<\/p>\n

David Whyte\u2019s \u201cHouse of Belonging\u201d calls to me from across the room.<\/p>\n

Pulling book off shelf, stepping over purring cat, I read….<\/p>\n

\u201cThis is the bright home in which I live.\u00a0 This is where I ask my friends to come. \u00a0<\/em>This is where I want to love all the things\u00a0<\/em>it has taken me so long to learn to love. \u00a0<\/em>This is the temple of my adult aloneness,\u00a0<\/em>and I belong to that aloneness as I belong to my life. \u00a0<\/em>There is no house \u00a0<\/em>like the house of belonging.\u201d<\/em><\/p>\n

Closing the book, my heart bursts open with the power of words understanding me.<\/p>\n

Yes.<\/p>\n

I am enough, and my life is enough, and I never ever thought I would arrive and I am here.<\/p>\n

I smile.<\/p>\n

I write it all down.<\/p>\n
