{"id":34,"date":"2010-04-03T18:51:30","date_gmt":"2010-04-03T18:51:30","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/betzking.com\/blog\/?p=34"},"modified":"2024-11-29T17:07:33","modified_gmt":"2024-11-29T22:07:33","slug":"34","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/betzking.com\/blog\/34\/","title":{"rendered":"How the Light gets in&#8230;"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>I saw Leonard Cohen perform last night, and he did the song <a href=\"https:\/\/betzking.com\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2010\/04\/2-04-Anthem.mp3\">Anthem<\/a> (click to play).<\/p>\n<p><em>Ring the bells, that still can ring&#8230;.<br \/>\nForget your perfect offering&#8230;<br \/>\nThere is a crack, a crack, in everything&#8230;.<br \/>\nThat&#8217;s how the light gets in&#8230;.<\/em><a href=\"https:\/\/betzking.com\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2010\/04\/face.jpg\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" src=\"https:\/\/betzking.com\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2010\/04\/face-150x150.jpg\" alt=\"\" title=\"Face\" width=\"150\" height=\"150\" class=\"alignright size-thumbnail wp-image-33\"><\/a><\/p>\n<p>When I first met my husband, one thing that struck me was his fondness for imperfect photos. The worse the photo, the more he loved it, because it was &#8220;real&#8221;. He also introduced me to Leonard Cohen, and to this song.<\/p>\n<p>So I&#8217;ve been thinking about the idea of imperfection being attractive. In contemplating the people I love the most, and identifying what it is I love about them, I see that in <em>all cases<\/em>, what I love the most is somehow related to their &#8220;cracks&#8221;.  Their woundedness, and the manner in which they overcame that woundedness, is a major factor in their personality development and self-expression. I don&#8217;t love them <em>in spite of<\/em> their cracks, I love them <em>because of<\/em> their cracks.<\/p>\n<p>Thinking of my own imperfections as attractive is a bit more difficult, but that&#8217;s ok.
